Director, Think Big Analytics
- What does your job entail?
I work as a Director at Think Big Analytics. We work with some of the biggest global brands around the world and we help them leverage data and analytics to create business value. I work to profile business problems, opportunities and see how data and analytics can help solve some of those challenges.
- How did you get where you are today?
My journey to where I am today hasn’t been planned. When I was at high school there were many things I wanted to do, and I kept changing my mind. I ended up taking a degree in computer science and did a PHD in Life Science. I loved solving problems. It’s never really been planned, I’ve always followed the next thing, the next opportunity that has come my way.
I believe in hard work, I believe in having a good work ethic. If you work hard at something, you can absolutely achieve it. I strongly believe that being prepared, making sure you know your domain, subject, and really research before you go into something, you can be successful.
- What is the best lesson you have learned?
When I was in high school, I would really stress about what I wanted to do with my life, my career and what job I would enjoy the most. What I have learnt so far with my career is that it’s great having a good education and foundation, but it’s more important to be learning, picking up new things and moving into new industries. In today’s world, the subjects that you study at school are not necessarily linked to what you might end up doing in a career.
- Do you believe in taking risks?
Doing the right thing is not always easy. I think there are many people in companies who won’t take a risk. They are afraid that it won’t work out or they will be blamed for making a wrong decision. It’s scary to step out there and make decisions without all the information at your fingertips. You must take a leap of faith and that’s been a key learning lesson for me.
