Here at The Female Lead, we spend a lot of time and energy sharing the diverse stories of incredible women around the globe – but we rarely talk about our own. We decided that it’s time to change that. Read on for a brief insight into each member of our core team…

Florence Robson, Editorial

What’s your favourite Female Lead quote?

“Work without permission” – Ava DuVernay.

Which women, dead or alive, would you invite to your dream dinner party?

This was a real challenge! To make it slightly easier to choose, I’ve excluded any women currently profiled by The Female Lead.

Jane Austen (I’d love to read about the party through her eyes in her letters afterwards)
Christine Baranski (for the glamour and the Cher anecdotes)
Katharine Hepburn (for the wit and the trousers)
Michelle Obama (we would discuss politics and Hamilton)
Julie d’Aubigny (the cross-dressing, sword fighting opera singer. Need I say more?)
Anne Boleyn (controversial perhaps, but she was smashing the glass ceiling before it was a ‘thing’)
Nora Ephron (she would have *opinions* on the food)
Mary Lou Williams (a jazz pioneer who could provide excellent after-dinner entertainment)
Nellie Bly (she would regale the table with tales of her journalistic stunts)

Veryan Dexter, Strategist

What’s your favourite Female Lead quote?

“It’s not that I am fearless, it’s that I never allow fear to stop me.” – Leymah Gbowee.

Which Female Lead woman would you most like to interview?

The author Judy Blume. Her novels spoke to young adults with greater trust and candour than any previous teen author. Her work attracted the attention of the censors but she has never shied away from writing about challenging subjects with empathy and honesty.

Becky Small, Project Lead

What’s your favourite Female Lead quote?

“Never be afraid to be a poppy in a field of daffodils.” – Michaela DePrince.

Who is inspiring you at the moment?

Amal Clooney! She works tirelessly to help people in need across the world. She helped thousands of Syrian refugees get an education, founded the Clooney foundation for justice, single-handedly took ISIS to court and has strongly advocated and inspired women across the globe while doing so. Her advice and emphasis on personal character and courage has stuck with me.“Courage, as they say, is contagious. And perhaps more than anything that will define you is your courage. Be courageous. Challenge orthodoxy. Stand up for what you believe in”. Amal is the perfect role model for all young girls to look up to!
